PROFILE
Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly is one of the 11 Administrative Districts in the Bono East Region of Ghana. It was upgraded by Legislative instrument LI 2266 in 2017 as provided by the section 3 of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936)
The Municipality has one Constituency – Atebubu-Amantin with two (2) Traditional Councils namely; Atebubu Traditional Council and Amantin Traditional Council and Eight (8) Zonal Councils.
VISION
The vision of the Assembly is to harness and mobilize the resources within its area of jurisdiction to reduce poverty and transform its local economy into a vibrant and developed enclave.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly exists to formulate and implement policies directed at promoting good quality education, improve health delivery, sanitation and sound environment and reduce poverty among its people. This will be achieved through judicious use of the available human and material resources.
COMPOSITION OF THE ASSEMBLY
The Assembly has a total membership of forty-seven (47) which is made up of 31 elected members and fourteen (14) Government Appointees and by section 5 (1) of the Local Governance Act, Act 936, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament are also Members of the Assembly.
The Assembly has an Executive Committee of eight (8) members chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive. This is made up of chairpersons of the five [5] statutory sub- committees and others. This is as shown below;
- Finance and Administration Sub-Committee
- Development planning Sub-Committee
- Works Sub-Committee
- Justice and Security Sub-Committee
- Social Services Sub-committee
- The chairperson of one ad-hoc Sub-Committee.
- Any two other members elected from among members one of which is a woman.
- The MCE
- The secretary/MCD
Administratively, the Municipality is sub-divided into eight (8) Zonal Councils as indicated below.

FUNCTIONS OF THE ASSEMBLY
The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly derives its functions from Article 245 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana as well as Section 12 (1- 15) of Act 936 of the Local Governance Act, 2016.
The mandatory functions of the Assembly are in line with section 12 Act 936 of the Local Governance Act of 2016, says that, a District Assembly shall exercise deliberative, Legislative and Executive functions. In line with this, the functions of Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly include the following:
- Providing guidance, direction and supervising all other administrative functions of the District.
- Responsible for the overall development of the district and ensures the preparation and submission of the under listed through the Regional Coordinating Council-
- Development plans of the Municipality to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) for approval; and
- The budget of the Municipality related to the approved plans of the minister for finance for approval.
- Formulating and executing plans, programs and strategies for the effective mobilization of resources necessary for the overall development of the Municipality.
- Promoting and supporting productive activity and social development in the Municipality and remove any obstacles to initiate development.
- Initiates programs for the development of basic infrastructure and provide municipal works and services in the Municipality.
- Responsible for the development, improvement and management of human settlements and the environment Municipality wide.
- Cooperate with the appropriate national and local security agencies for the maintenance of security and public safety in the Municipality.
- Ensures ready access to courts in the Municipality for the promotion of justice.
- Initiates, sponsors or carries out such studies as may be necessary for the discharge of any of the functions conferred by this Act or any other enactment:
- Performing such other functions as may be provided under any other enactment.
In the performance of these functions, The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly is subject to the general guidance and directions of the president in matters of national policy so as to act in cooperation with the appropriate public Corporation, statutory body or Non-Governmental Organization.
ADMINISTRATIVE BOUNDARIES
The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal has Atebubu as its capital and shares boundaries with eight (8) other districts, namely: Ejura-Sekyeredumase, Nkoranza North, Sene East, Sene West, Sekyere West, Sekyere East, Pru West and Pru east District.
The Municipal lies approximately between Latitude 7°23’ N and 7°55’ N and Longitude 0° 30’ W and 1 26’’W.
The Municipality covers approximately a total land area of about 3,120sq km made up of settlements which are mostly rural. The Municipality is part of the transitional Zone between the savannah wood land of Northern Ghana and the forest belt of the South.
The population of Atebubu-Amantin Municipal during the period under review was estimated at one hundred and three thousand six hundred and nineteen (103,619). This was based on the projected annual growth rate of 2.9% from the 2023 population and housing census. The major occupation of the people in the Municipality is agriculture, the proportion of which is about 85% of the Municipality Labor Force.
