The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Masud Musah Ayarba Thomas has presented a total of thirty-seven thousand Ghana Cedis to 21 persons with disability at a ceremony in Atebubu.

Twenty of the beneficiaries received educational support whiles the remaining person will benefit from prosthesis to aid her mobility.

Four recipients who are at the special school for the deaf received one thousand Ghana Cedis each whiles 8 pupils from basic schools received seven hundred Ghana  Cedis each with 3 senior high school students taking home one thousand Ghana Cedis each.

Five persons in tertiary institutions received varied amounts of money depending on their needs whiles the one to benefit from the prosthesis took away six thousand Ghana Cedis.

According to the municipal director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development Mr. Emmanuel Bukari, the recipients form the first batch of beneficiaries from the disability fund.

He said other PWDs will soon benefit from the provision of assistive devices like wheel chairs and special mobile phones for the blind among others.

Mr. Bukari noted that for economic empowerment, another batch of beneficiaries will receive cash for farming and other income generating activities whiles others get items like fridges and fufu pounding machines to enhance their productive capacities.

Making the presentations, the Hon. MCE said the National Democratic Congress government and for that matter the municipal assembly has the welfare of PWDs at heart and will do everything possible to make life better for them.

He said disability is not inability and exhorted beneficiaries to learn from the examples of Dr. Henry Seidu Daanaa a former minister of chieftaincy and traditional affairs and others PWDs who have been able to make it to the top of the educational ladder and impacting positively on society.

Madam Mary Boaduwaa Ware who spoke on behalf of recipients thanked government and the assembly for the gesture and promised that the funds will be put to the intended use to better the lot of beneficiaries.
