The General Secretary of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Mr. Kokro Amankwaah, has called on local authorities to prioritize effective information dissemination in their operations.
He made this appeal during the opening of a three-day training workshop on project management for working group members from the Tema Metropolitan, Atebubu-Amantin, and Kwahu West municipalities. The workshop, held in Koforidua, Eastern Regional capital, is part of the Partnership for Municipal Innovations-Women in Local Leadership (PMI-WILL) project.
The PMI-WILL project, which also includes the Nandom Municipal (Upper West Region) and Saboba District (Northern Region) as beneficiaries, aims to:
-
Increase women’s participation in leadership and decision-making within local governance.
-
Enhance the capacity of local authorities to deliver gender-responsive services for women, girls, children, and other marginalized groups.
Mr. Amankwaah expressed concern over the communication gap between local authorities and the public. Drawing from his experience as a former assembly member and Presiding Member, he stated, “Our assemblies are doing a lot, but the problem is that our people are unaware of these efforts. It’s time we focus on disseminating information to bridge this gap.”
He urged local authorities to leverage all available communication channels to keep citizens informed about developments in their communities. “This is key to fostering mutual trust and stronger relationships between local authorities and their constituents,” he emphasized.
The workshop underscores NALAG’s commitment to improving governance through transparency and inclusive leadership.
