The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Patrick Tampugre, has called on parents to prioritize their children’s education as the foundation for achieving future success. He made this appeal during the annual children’s retreat organized by the Atebubu Trinity Seventh-day Adventist (S.D.A) Church.
Speaking on the theme “Children at Risk,” Mr. Tampugre highlighted the dangers of inappropriate television content and access to pornographic websites via mobile phones, which he said could corrupt young minds and hinder their development. He emphasized that such exposures pose significant threats to children’s moral and academic growth.
The NCCE director also expressed concern over the increasing number of school-aged children engaging in economic activities due to current financial challenges, stressing that this trend jeopardizes their education and long-term wellbeing.
Mr. Tampugre encouraged children to embrace principles of honesty, integrity, and truthfulness to become responsible citizens. Quoting Psalm 127:3, he reminded parents that children are divine blessings who require proper care and guidance.
Mr. Stephen Ofori Sarfo, Youth Director of the ministry, explained that the annual retreat aims to raise awareness about challenges facing children and explore solutions to safeguard their future. The event featured a dramatic performance by the children, led by Child Coordinator Madam Esther Donkor, which reenacted the story of Noah’s Ark to underscore the importance of obedience to divine teachings.
The retreat brought together parents, church leaders, and children, reinforcing the collective responsibility to nurture and protect the younger generation.
