The Atebubu-Amantin Municipality will host the Bono East regional launch of the national ‘Tree for Life’ reforestation project on June 5, 2025. The initiative, launched by President John Dramani Mahama in March, aims to plant 30 million trees across Ghana this year.
The program seeks to:
- Educate communities about trees’ role in combating climate change
- Encourage youth participation in tree planting as both civic duty and agribusiness opportunity
- Plant 775,530 trees across the Bono East region during June
Mr. Emmanuel Omane, Manager of the Atebubu Forest District, explained the project will mobilize farmers, youth groups, schools, and traditional leaders. The initiative will also:
- Promote agroforestry systems combining crops and trees
- Train communities in sustainable land management
- Use technology and traditional knowledge to monitor progress
Bono East Regional Minister Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi will officiate the launch, with a keynote address by Mrs. Lucy Amu Ntim, Regional Manager of the Forest Services Division. The event will bring together civil society groups, development partners, and traditional leaders from across the region.
The ‘Tree for Life’ project represents a significant step in Ghana’s environmental conservation efforts, combining ecological restoration with economic opportunities for local communities.
