The 67th Independence Day celebration in the Atebubu-Amantin municipality was marked by an impressive turnout of schoolchildren and trade groups at a colorful ceremony held at the Anglican Primary School Park in Atebubu.
A parade featuring 43 schools from primary, JHS, and SHS levels, along with four cadet groups, dazzled the large crowd with their marching skills under the command of Station Officer I Zakaria Kabore of the Ghana National Fire Service.
The celebration, themed “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” was further enhanced by vibrant cultural displays.
In his keynote address, Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Edward Owusu emphasized the theme’s significance, stating: “This theme is not only relevant but particularly timely as this election year presents citizens with the opportunity to democratically elect our next President and Members of Parliament.”
He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving education through infrastructure expansion and providing necessary resources for quality teaching and learning. Addressing students, he advised against behaviors that might hinder their future potential, while reminding teachers of their influential role in shaping pupils’ lives. He also urged parents to prioritize their God-given responsibility in their children’s education.
The ceremony included awards for the top three schools in each category: Atsec Model Atebubu (primary), Amazing Grace JHS Atebubu (JHS), and New Kokrompe SHS (SHS). Three top-performing students from the recent Basic Education Certificate Examinations received citations and cash prizes.
The event was attended by traditional authorities, service commanders, heads of departments, and political party representatives.
