The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on youth activists from political parties in the Atebubu-Amantin constituency to champion peaceful elections this December. The engagement, part of the European Union-funded Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE) initiative, aimed to foster tolerance and combat electoral violence.
NCCE Municipal Director Patrick Tampugre urged youth activists to help remove the constituency’s “hotspot” label during elections by promoting non-violence.
The dialogue emphasized on the role Youth in peacebuilding and interfaith tolerance. Identifying and countering misinformation/disinformation.
The NCCE’s 2024 theme: “Together We Can Build Ghana: Get Involved,” addressing vote-buying, fake news, and ethnic/religious tensions.
ASP Thomas Prempeh Mercer, Municipal Crime Officer, cautioned against vigilantism (punishable by ≥10 years’ jail) and sharing unverified social media content. Participants from six parties (NPP, NDC, PPP, PNC, GUM, CPP) pledged to disseminate peace messages to ensure violence-free elections.
