The Atebubu-Amantin municipal chief executive Hon. Masud Musah Ayarba Thomas has bemoaned the use of drugs by youth in the municipality.

The MCE expressed this concern as part of his sessional address to the assembly at its last ordinary meeting for the year in Atebubu.

“Drug use among the youth continuous to be a major concern. The youth indulge in excessive abuse of drugs such as tramadol, weed and even sniffing of super glue.” He said.

Drawing a correlation between drug use and social vices the MCE stressed the readiness of the Municipal Security Council to deal with the problem.

Hon. Ayarba Thomas said the regular highway patrols by the military and the Formed Police Unit with support from anti-robbery unit of the Police and the National Investigations Bureau has accounted for a reduction in the incidence of armed robberies on the highways.

The MCE reiterated that notwithstanding the heavy toll these patrol activities has on the finances of the assembly, it will continue with the support to ensure peace in the municipality.
